Reviving a Royal Legacy

Originating in Aurangabad during the 14th century, Himroo is a remarkable textile born from the confluence of Persian influence and Indian craftsmanship. Woven using a distinctive blend of cotton and silk, it was created as an elegant alternative to luxurious silk fabrics while retaining the same richness and intricate beauty.

Celebrated for its elaborate motifs, soft texture, and masterful weaving techniques, Himroo quickly became synonymous with royalty and nobility. For centuries, it stood as a symbol of refinement, artistry, and India's rich textile heritage.

Today, however, this exceptional craft faces an uncertain future. With only a handful of master weavers continuing the tradition, the knowledge behind Himroo is slowly disappearing.

Project Himroo was created to help change that. In collaboration with master artisans and supported by the Director of Handlooms and Textiles, Shailaja Ramaiyer, Mamatha Tulluri Designer Studio is working to preserve this exceptional craft by creating opportunities for skilled weavers and bringing Himroo into contemporary design.

Our mission goes beyond fabric. It is about celebrating craftsmanship, sustaining artisan communities, and ensuring that traditional weaving techniques continue to thrive for future generations.

“Every Himroo creation is a tribute to heritage, handcrafted with care and designed to carry a timeless legacy forward.”
Rooted in Nature
Project Idha

Rooted in Nature

Idha means Earth — a name that reflects our belief that the most beautiful things begin with nature. Founded in 2019 with just three handlooms, Idha began with a quiet intention: to create clothing that is gentle on the skin, mindful of the earth, and meaningful in the way it is made.

Our journey began with handloom cottons and natural dyes — pomegranate peels, marigold flowers, indigo leaves, myrobalan and onion skins — transforming traditional textiles into pieces of understated, enduring beauty. What began with three looms soon became a deeper exploration of what clothing can be when it exists in harmony with nature.

As a doctor, I have always been conscious of what we allow to come in contact with our skin. Natural, breathable fabrics felt instinctively right — particularly in India, where cotton and handloom have been woven into our lives for generations. But Idha has always stood for something beyond fabric; it is a philosophy of conscious creation.

We choose natural fibres, traditional weaving techniques and natural dyeing processes wherever possible. The result is clothing that breathes, softens with time and carries the unmistakable touch of the hands that created it — an expression of thoughtful luxury that respects its maker, its wearer and the world it comes from.

“Rooted in nature. Woven with intention. Made to endure.”
